Silver dove gray South Sea pearl, golden yellow Mother-of-Pearl, black and Gold Vermeil over solid 925 Sterling Silver. Mother-of-Pearl is produced by the Pinctada maxima mollusk the South Sea pearl oyster. They are currently cultured in areas throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans, primarily in Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines. These waters are the native habitat of a large oyster known as Pinctada maxima.

This oyster grows up to 12 inches in diameter and much larger than other saltwater oysters. There are two varieties of Pinctada maxima, the silver-lipped and the gold-lipped. The two are distinguished by their distinct coloration of the outer edge of the interior. This type of shell is known as mother-of-pearl, and is responsible for the coloration of the cultured pearls produced, therefore the name. Pinna shell species are large saltwater clams sometimes known as pen shells.

They are marine bivalve mollusks. Is a term used for pearls from the shell species Pinna. This species is found in the waters of the Indian and Pacific Ocean and also in the Mediterranean.

These shells produce both nacreous and non-nacreous pearls. The pearls often exhibit a dark grey to black body color with overtones of bright green, blue, purple, silver, and pink. South Sea Pearls are among the rarest of all pearls that are available. Since the dawn of civilization, pearls have been one of the most priced possessions of mankind. Like gold or jewels, they hold an irresistible allure for people as a symbol of rare beauty and wealth.

There were times when pearls were harvested one by one from wild oysters living under the sea. Today there are not many traditional divers that still search for natural pearls in this manner.

Instead high-quality South Sea pearls are cultivated in farms in the pristine waters of the Indonesian archipelago. This extremely rare South Sea pearl is an inspiration from nature! The color is natural and does not have any enhancements. This South Sea pearl is simply beautiful.

To touch this pearl is to touch the smoothness of silk. This South Sea pearl is made by nature; nurtured by man, every individual pearl carries with it the adventure, a history and a story, unique only to pearls. Don't miss this opportunity to own this rare & spectacular hand-carved treasure. Our photographs have been enlarged to show details.
