Fantastic vintage Alva Museum Replicas animal mask necklace. This gorgeous creation is based on the gold original from the FREER Gallery of Art. Such ornamentation appeared on their bronze ritual vessels, used during the Chinese Shang dynasty Late Eastern Chou period (5th to 3rd centuries). This unique piece is gold tone finished over pewter with incredible detail and a wonderful patinated look with a hanging tassel. Attached is a black onyx beaded chain strand, black square glass with gold tone inlay, gold tone metal beads and carved lapis beads.

A wonderful compilation and looks amazing when worn. About Alva Museum Replicas (1948 - 1990): Replicas were designed by Alva Studios, operated by Alfred Wolkenberg.

Alfred was born in Vienna in 1911 and immigrated to the US in 1939. In 1948 he founded Alva Studios of Long Island City, NY. He had many artists and designers who were commissioned to produce reproductions of ancient jewelry and sculpture. The centerpiece is 2.5 tall x 2.5 wide. The necklace is 27 inches in length (not including the removable tassel 4.5 inches in length).
