An antique c1900 hand carved and pierced Mother of Pearl religious plaque measuring a maximum 5.65 in (145 mm) x 4.25 in (108 mm). The plaque features the Annunciation i. The announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would divinely conceive a son to be called Jesus. In addition to the main scene in deep relief, the plaque has detailed incised and skilfully produced pierced foliate decoration. The plaque is in very good condition overall with no later damage just a few natural flaws within the shell including a 5 mm circular blemish on one of the leaves to the perimeter and some minor pin pricks.
